The West Coast Thing..
[Beach towels & bandanas]
PS starting to link what I’m wearing/buying at the end of these now, so don’t scroll off early!
Ok so this week was a whole lot of LA and I have many thoughts and feedback..
Like how different a beach day feels out here versus what I’m used to.. we spent a full day on a single towel on the sand on a rocky beach in Malibu with my Stanley water bottle as the only beverage - instead of a euro beach club with the full service luxe daybeds and the DJ and the $80 rosé.. and it was somehow one of the best days I’ve had all summer. And then the rest of the week was just beach cruise after beach cruise, a bandana permanently on my head at this point, early dinners, early wake ups, outside (a lot).
I also met so many new people this week in different social settings that I genuinely connected to and was like “ok we’d definitely be friends”. And then on top of that got to see old friends I hadn’t seen in forever, so it was this nice mix of new energy and old comfort at the same time. I spent a lot of the week just hopping around different neighborhoods trying to figure out what I actually like here, how I used to love West Hollywood but am newly obsessed with Brentwood, so need all your thoughts on that too. For the record, no, I’m not moving to LA, I know that’s where everyone’s brain goes the second I say I love it here, but I do know I’m going to be spending a lottt of time here. I used to have this feeling that a bicoastal life would be good for me one day, just changing the pace every so often, slowing down when I need to. Now everyone around me is like wow this is so good for you we love it. It’s very encouraging. I’m still a die hard New Yorker, always will be, and will be there a majority of the time. Let’s not be crazy.
The schedule out here has been doing something to my brain. I was waking up at 6am to work with my team back east, which sounds brutal but actually meant I was done by 1 or 2pm LA time and had this entire open afternoon just sitting there. And at first I panicked a little, like wait what do I even do with this, I haven’t had unstructured time in years. But then I started making workout plans, exploring new spots, just filling it in slowly instead of scheduling it to death. I loved waking up early here too, it was easy considering the jet lag.. getting my coffee from this new local spot I found, already on a first name basis with the barista because I’ll introduce myself to literally everyone here. I even had a few lunch meetings this week, actual in person lunch meetings, which I genuinely never do anymore because everything is a call or a zoom these days from home.
The driving around was something I thought would be miserable for me, LA traffic has that reputation.. but timing the commutes right to different parts of LA and my new obsession with the self-driving Tesla was a game changer. I really LOVED my car rides.
It’s all just been really cool and different for me, and honestly that’s the exciting part, not that any one thing was crazy or extraordinary, just that it was new-ish.
Anyway that’s my ramble for the week. Below I’m linking a few things I ended up buying or wearing while I was out here because obviously I still shopped, that part of me never turns off.

Things I Spend Money On That Are SO Worth It
I did the trend. You know the one: “five things that are actually worth the money.” Mine had more. It got progressively more unhinged and then everyone in my comments wanted links, prices and a full explanation of how I could possibly justify some of these things..
